Power Generation
Organic Power is pursuing a strategy of polygeneration for power production. This translates as the generation of reliable electric power from a combination of variable supply, such as wind, and reliable supply from sources such as thermal biomass plants or pumped storage hydro-electric schemes. Ideally both the variable and reliable power supply would be delivered to the same grid network. This strategy will ensure that Organic Power can supply its customers from its own generation capacity without the need to buy power from other producers.
Intermittent Power
Sources of electric power generation that may be uncontrollably variable or more intermittent
than conventional power sources, and primarily refers to sources of renewable energy such as wind and solar generated electricity.
      +
Pumped Hydro
A method of storing and producing electricity to supplyhigh peak demands by moving water between reservoirs
at different elevations
      +
Biomass
Living and recently dead biological material that can be
used as fuel or for industrial production.
Biomass refers
to plant matter grown for use as biofuel for power generation.
      =
Peak/Base Power
The transformation of intermittent power into predictable
power through energy storage, and
provision of base
load from biomass and other organic sources in
combination to give renewable pesk/base load
Project Proposals
Organic Power is evaluating a polygeneration project in West Cork. The Company is proposing 80MW of wind capacity (2 projects Enniskeane, Mount Kid) in early planning for which we intend to provide 20MW of shadow power backup from a biomass plant. At this time, we are proposing to locate the plant in Enniskeane, adjacent to one of the proposed wind farms. Thus we intend to produce 20MW of reliable power 24/7 for direct sale through the national grid using 100kV lines. We aim to commission the plant in 2010.
We have several other projects at the early stages of assessment in Ireland.
