Biomass
Biomass is the fuel that Organic power will be transforming to electric power in thermal power plants. It is produced by growing crops through agriculture and forestry.
In order to ensure that a secure supply is available, Organic Power is developing a biomass production framework in cooperation with farmers within a 30 km radius of a power plant. The scheme is based on the assumption that farmers will become shareholders in the company and contract to the company to grow a minimum of 30 acres of energy crops from Organic Power seed resources on an ongoing basis on their lands.
A five year lead in time for crop production is required to build up a potential standing stock of biomass crops to be ready for 2010. Crops will be grain in annually declining quantities during the lead in period as the multi-year crops are established. Multi-year crops will include Elephant grass, Canary Reed Grass, and Willow.
Project Proposals
Plant seed acreage of willow, poplar, Tricticale in 2007 in West Cork to create seed resource. This resource will be used to expand the acreage of biomass.
